Things to consider

What size Marquee will I need?

The size of the marquee will depend on a few key factors including the following;

  • Number of guests attending
  • Function type i.e. sit down or a cocktail / standing meal?
  • Table sizes and shapes
  • Space required for dance floor, band, bar, catering, etc.
  • Will you need a catering marquee, does the caterer need an additional entrance to the marquee?

What will Marquee Hire cost

The cost for marquee hire will vary greatly depending on what you require. Each wedding or event is unique and are individually tailored to suit your needs. As a rough guide most weddings range between $2,000 and $5,000.

What is the difference between a Rope & Pole Marquee, a Frame Marquee and a Structure Marquee?

To learn about these different types, please see our Products page.

Where can the Marquee be erected?

Only Frame marquees can be erected up against a building. Pavilion marquees can be built over some obstacles i.e. trees, garden beds, etc. Please make sure to advise us of any possible obstacles when enquiring. A map of the services underground i.e. water, electricity, gas is also highly recommended.

Points to consider

  • What sort of access to the site is there for delivery?
  • Can we park our truck there?
  • When selecting a location for your event, is the location public or private property?
  • Is there a view you would like to capitalise on?
  • Is the area, lawn, asphalt or concrete? Is the site reasonably flat?

Are you planning on including a dance floor?

It is difficult to guess the perfect size because it will depend on many things that can’t be measured.
The mood of the people, the music etc. A starting point is to assume that half of your guests may be on the dance floor at a given time and allow 5ft² (.47m²) per person.

Do all marquees have to be pegged?

Rope and pole marquees must be pegged. Frame marquees are free standing and they should be pegged but in some circumstances can be tied to weights.

When do you erect the marquee?

For large events on a weekend (eg weddings) we usually erect on Wednesday or Thursday before and dismantle on Monday or Tuesday following.

Can I erect the Marquee myself?

Generally no. Most of our marquees are Frame or larger Rope & Pole Marquees. For reasons of safety, quality, and to avoid damage, these must be erected by our trained staff.

When do I need to book?

Have you chosen an event date and time?
Many functions are booked months ahead, it is strongly advised to make your booking as early as possible to ensure that what you want is available for hire. Certain times of the year (eg February & March) are always heavily booked and are generally booked atleast 12 months ahead.

Do I have to wash items before returning?

Crockery, cutlery & glasses must be returned clean & dry. An additional fee will be charged if they are returned dirty.
Linen does not need to be washed but should be shaken clean and packed into the bags provided.

What are your payment terms?

To secure a booking with Blue Lake Party Hire, a deposit of 30% is required.
The balance is due and payable on the day of delivery (unless otherwise arranged before hand).
